Aaron had indeed told them earlier: "O my people, you are being only misled with this. Surely your Lord is Ar-Rahman. So follow me and obey my command." 90 They said, "We shall continue worshipping the calf until Moses comes back." 91 He (Moses) said: O Aaron! What held thee back when thou didst see them gone astray, 92 from [abandoning them and] following me? Hast thou, then, [deliberately] disobeyed my commandment?" 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 Moses asked, "Samiri, what were your motives?" 95 He said: l saw that which they saw not; so I seized a handful from the footstep of the messenger, and then cast it; thus my soul embellished the affair to me. 96 'Begone! Your lot in this life is to cry: "untouchable!' said he (Moses). 'An appointment awaits you that you cannot fail to keep. Look at your god which you clung to indeed we will burn it and scatter its ashes upon the sea' 97 Your Ilah (God) is only Allah, the One (La ilaha illa Huwa) (none has the right to be worshipped but He). He has full knowledge of all things. 98 (O Muhammad), thus do We recount to you the events of the past, and We have bestowed upon you from Ourself an admonition. 99 Whoever disregards (the Quran) will be heavily burdened with sin on the Day of Judgment 100 Abiding under it - an evil burden for them on the Day of Resurrection, 101 On the day the Trumpet is blown; and We shall muster the sinners upon that day with eyes staring, 102 They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]." 103 We know well what they will say. The most just among them in the matter will declare: 'You have stayed away but one day' 104
