(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
