The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 in a land close by. But, after their defeat they shall become the victors. 3 Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
