The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
