The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
