The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Dragging by the head, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
