The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those that pray, 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
