Jinns (Al-Jinn)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Say, (O Prophet), it was revealed to me that a band of jinn attentively listened to (the recitation of the Qur'an) and then (went back to their people) and said: “We have indeed heard a wonderful Qur'an" 1 Which guideth unto righteousness, so we believe in it and we ascribe no partner unto our Lord. 2 our Lord is too exalted to have either a wife or son. 3 'There were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah; 4 And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie. 5 And indeed (O Muhammad) individuals of humankind used to invoke the protection of individuals of the jinn, so that they increased them in revolt against Allah); 6 They thought, as you did, that God would never raise up anyone from the dead. 7 And that we sought to reach heaven, but we found it filled with strong guards and flaming stars. 8 'We used, indeed, to sit there in (hidden) stations, to (steal) a hearing; but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush. 9 And we know not whether harm is boded unto all who are in the earth, or whether their Lord intendeth guidance for them. 10 Some of us are righteous, but some are otherwise, we are sects that differ. 11 'But we think that we can by no means frustrate Allah throughout the earth, nor can we frustrate Him by flight. 12 When we heard the guidance, we believed in it; and whosoever believes in his Lord, he shall fear neither paltriness nor vileness. 13 And of us some are Muslims, and of us some are deviators. Then whosoever hath embraced Islam - such have endeavoured after a path of rectitude. 14 However, the deviators from the Truth will be the fuel for hell". 15 If they (non-Muslims) had believed in Allah, and went on the Right Way (i.e. Islam) We should surely have bestowed on them water (rain) in abundance. 16 "That We might try them by that (means). But if any turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to undergo a severe Penalty. 17 The mosques are for God's worship -- so do not invoke anyone else along with God -- 18 And that when the servant of Allah stood up calling upon Him, they wellnigh crowded him (to death). 19
