The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
