He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
