Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
