The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamud (people) denied (their Prophet) through their transgression (by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism, and by following polytheism, and by committing every kind of sin). 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
