The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 in a few years. To Allah belongs the Command before and after, and on that Day the believers will rejoice 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think for themselves that God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them without reason and a determined purpose? But many men reject the meeting with their Lord. 8 And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them. 10
