He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
