Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
