The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
