The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 none can avert that. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
