Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him 162 except those who are doomed to enter hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 They used to say before: 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
