The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Praise belongs to Allah who has sent down the Book to His worshiper (Prophet Muhammad) and has not made any crookedness in it, 1 and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, 2 Staying in it for ever; 3 and to warn those who say, 'God has taken to Himself a son'; 4 they have no knowledge of it, they nor their fathers; a monstrous word it is, issuing out of their mouths; they say nothing but a lie. 5 But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? 6 We have caused earthly things to seem attractive so that We can see who will excel in good deeds. 7 And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. 8 Or deemest thou that the People of the Cave and the Inscription are a wonder among Our portents? 9 When the young men fled for refuge to the Cave and said: Our Lord! Give us mercy from Thy presence, and shape for us right conduct in our plight. 10 We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) 11 and then roused them so that We might see which of the two parties could best tell the length of their stay. 12
