The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and banana trees, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
