The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be condemned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
