The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
