۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
