The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
