a large throng from the ancients, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 "We are ruined, 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
