Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
