۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
