Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 How awesome that laying-bare of the truth! 2 And what would make you realize what the sure calamity is! 3 The Thamud and 'Ad denied the consequential calamity. 4 the Thamud were destroyed by a terrible storm of thunder and lightning; 5 And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind 6 which continued to strike them for seven nights and eight days so that eventually you could see the people lying dead like the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 7 Then do you see of them any remains? 8 And there was Pharaoh, too, and [many of] those who lived before him, and the cities that were overthrown - [all of them] indulged in sin upon sin 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship 11 so that We might make it a reminder for you and so that attentive ears might retain it. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 and the earth and the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with a single stroke! 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 And the heaven will split asunder, for that Day it (the heaven will be frail (weak), and torn up, 16 And the angels shall be on the sides thereof; and above them eight shall bear on that day your Lord's power. 17 On that Day you shall be brought to judgment: not [even] the most hidden of your deeds will remain hidden. 18 Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Take, read my Record! 19 Verily I was sure that I should be a meeter of my reckoning. 20 Then he will be in blissful state 21 in a high Garden, 22 with clusters of fruit within easy reach. 23 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past." 24 As for him whose Record will be given to him in his left hand, he will exclaim: “Would that I had never been given my Record, 25 and that we would never knew what our records contained. 26 Would that it (my death) had ended it all! 27 Our wealth is of no benefit to us 28 There hath perished from me my authority. 29 Lay hold of him and chain him; 30 and then let him enter hell, 31 and then thrust him into a chain [of other sinners like him - a chain] the length whereof is seventy cubits: 32 He did not believe in God the supreme, 33 and he never urged the feeding of the needy; 34 So no friend has he here this Day, 35 nor any food except foul pus 36 Which none but the hellish eat." 37
