The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
