He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
