The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
