The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
