The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are clothed! 1 arise, and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches people's skin 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
