The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
