The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
