The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount; 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
