He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
