Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
