The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 A written record. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 No indeed, on that Day they shall be veiled from their Lord. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 A Register inscribed. 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 On couches face to face. 23 You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
