۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
