The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for those on the Right, 38
