The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 And when the Records of Account are laid bare. 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy. 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
