The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
