Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
