Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
