The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muhammad SAW to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 and snatched people up as though they were stumps of uprooted palmtrees. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
