Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
