The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
