Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
