He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
